Overstock CEO resigns after speaking of "Deep State," and investigations of Trump, Clinton  3 Weeks ago

Saying that his "involvement in certain government matters'' may interfere with the company's ability to conduct business, Overstock.com's CEO announced Thursday that he would resign.

In a letter to shareholders, Patrick Byrne, said he would leave his position helming the company, as well as his position on the board, effective Thursday

Byrne's resignation follows the issuing of another letter on Aug. 12 that was entitled "Overstock.com CEO Comments on Deep State.'' He spoke then of helping with various investigations of government officials, including a final inquiry that was "more about political espionage.'''

"The news that I shared is bubbling (however haphazardly) into the public,'' Byrne wrote in his resignation letter Thursday. "Thus, while I believe that I did what was necessary for the good of the country, for the good of the firm, I am in the sad position of having to sever ties with Overstock, both as CEO and board member.''

Earlier this month, Byrne wrote that in 2015, for "the third time in my life I helped the Men in Black ... Unfortunately, this third time turned out to be less about law enforcement and more about political espionage conducted against Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump (and to a lesser degree, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz).''

Byrne said that last year, having " put the pieces together,'' he spoke to the Department of Justice, and several others.
